1 · BP = flow x resistance
Blood pressure is the product of cardiac output (flow) and peripheral resistance (bore).Picture a vessel as a water pipe. Blood pressure is not a number from nowhere — it is the product of two things:Cardiac output (flow) = heart rate x stroke volume — how much blood the heart pumps per minutePeripheral resistance (bore) = the tighter the vessel, the narrower the bore, the higher the pressure the same flow pushes out
So BP = cardiac output x peripheral resistance. The gauge above reads that product. Remember this pipe — the next three steps all settle accounts on it.
