1 · One axis, two clocks
After training, lactate peaks when you are most tired and usually clears within an hour, while soreness peaks a day or two later, so the clocks do not match.Lay 'what happens after training' on one timeline, from the end of exercise (hour 0) out to day 7. Two things are running their own clocks on it:· Lactate: highest at the moment you're most tired, but the instant you stop it begins being cleared and recycled — usually back to baseline within an hour.
· : barely hurts at the moment you finish, yet peaks the next day or two.
This island makes one point: these two clocks simply don't line up. And it's that mismatch which, in one stroke, overturns the most widespread myth — 'sore after training = lactic acid build-up'.
